Excerpt:
Dripping wet, he regarded her with a sly grin. He removed his hat and rubbed his forehead, pretending to ponder. "What was it I said? Something about only having to wait until tonight?"
Samantha gasped. "You wouldn't dare."
"Collect on a winning bet? Oh, yeah, I would."
He entered, shrugged off his coat and tossed it into the corner as she backed into the hut. He strode towards her.
"Is your horse lame?" He crossed his muscled arms.
Samantha's legs grew weak and parts of her body liquefied, but she was able to continue her retreat backwards, though half enjoying the cat-and-mouse game. "Yes." She stopped, the heel of her boot bumping the stone wall behind her.
"Close quarters, princess. And running outside is not an option. I doubt you'll find the mountain lion very friendly this time of night."
"Thanks for the reminder." She swallowed hard and her voice faltered as she caught a quick breath, the hard beat of her heart making her breathing short and choppy. "Funny, I didn't take you as the friendly sort."
He chuckled, deep in his throat. His voice was sexy--too sexy. "No worries, princess. I won't befriend you any more than you want me to."
Arrogant cattleman. "Awfully sure of yourself, Mr. MacLaine."
He ran one finger along her jawline and tilted her chin up. "Ms. Matthews, would you like to put my abilities to the test?"
